Gray has been waking up at night recently. We think she is teething (note the hand in mouth picture below), which would explain why my former "good sleeper" is now a late night snacker. Some nights are worse than others - Wednesday night was one of those nights! So, Gray and I, along with Mia, went to my parents so that I could get a nap while she visited with my family. Here are a few pics my mom took of her while she was visiting.
~Oh and I have added my mom as a contributor to the blog so that she can add pictures and commentary too. You know, to keep my readers happy!

Check out our mobile baby in the video below! Gone are the days of putting Gray in one place and her staying put. She is rolling over so quickly that we can lay her down on her back and by the time we sit down, she has already rolled over to her tummy. Funny thing though, she does not like being on her tummy, so she quickly gets frustrated once she has rolled over. And she does not yet roll from tummy to back to solve the problem, even though it is actually easier for her to do so. Go figure, my daughter is stubborn! Now, where could she possibly get that from? Hmm...

A year ago today...
I found out I was pregnant. After trying for over a year and going through test after test, we found out our dreams of having a baby were going to come true. Here is how it all happened:
After 5 years of marriage, we decided we were ready to start a family and soon began to try to get pregnant. Months went by with no luck and finally we decided to talk to a doctor. I went in for my annual exam and discussed the situation with my OBGYN, Dr. Sebestyen, explaning my history of irregular cycles. At the appointment they drew blood and I found out on April 17, 2009 that I had PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Women that have PCOS often have irregular cycles and do not ovulate on their own, making it difficult to get pregnant. Needless to say, I was crushed. Not only did I not know when I would be able to get pregnant, now I did not even know if I could get pregnant.
Dr. Sebestyen referred us to Dr. Burger at Texas Fertility Center and we met with her to begin the testing process. In the mean time, I began acupuncture treatments to try to help my body ovulate. During this time, I was hopeful but realistic and cried almost daily.
I decided to take my mind off of things by planning a trip to Hawaii. We had always wanted to go, but never had and this seemed like as good of time as any to treat ourselves. We got back from Hawaii on Friday, July 24 and on Monday, July 27, we had an appointment with Dr. Burger to discuss our options for starting a family. At the appointment I was given a prescription to start my cycle so that we could begin the process. I chose not to take the prescription and let things happen naturally, which allowed my body to ovulate on its own. And I had no idea!
It was a Tuesday and after spending the day in professional development, I stopped by Target on the way home to pick up some groceries. I had planned to pick up a pregnancy test because even though I had no reason to believe I was pregnant, I still liked to check periodically. Then I ran into my mother at Target, so decided to nix the pregnancy test idea so as not to give her false hope. Unfortunately, Target did not have Kevin's favorite ice cream (Breyer's Mint Chocolate Chip, in case you wanted to know), so I then had to stop at Wal-Mart before heading home. I decided on a whim to go ahead and pick up a pregnancy test while I was there.
When I got home I decided to get the negative test over with, but much to my surprise there appeared 2 pink lines, a positive test. I was in shock and disbelief. Then I called Kevin at work (not exactly the way I wanted to tell him, but I needed to tell someone) to tell him and even called it a cruel joke, because there was no way I was pregnant.
He went rock climbing that evening with Joel and told him. While they rock climbed, I went to a Kids Quest training at church and picked up a box of digital pregnancy tests on the way home. When I got home, I took the test and it read "Pregnant." I showed Kevin and we were both so excited. The next day I went in for a blood test, confirming I was about 4 weeks pregnant. And then a week later I was able to see our tiny little embryo on an ultrasound. Then at 7 weeks we saw and heard the tiny little heartbeat, 138 beat per minutes - PERFECT!
The first people we told other than Joel were Kevin's mom, Janica and then my parents ion their 38th Wedding Anniversary (August 14, 2009). Once we heard and saw the heartbeat, we told more close friends and family, but once the 1st trimester was over, we told everyone else.
I had so much fun telling my students the news on October 30, 2009. I read them the book, "Our Teacher's Having a Baby" by Eve Bunting. After reading them the book, I alsked them why they thought I chose to read the book to them and I got several strange responses, but one students finally said "Because you're having a baby?" and I smiled. The rest of the class started to laugh, thinking that would be pretty funny, until I nodded my head "Yes." The all got really quiet and then really excited. From that day on, when they would leave at the end of the day they would tell me bye and then they would say to my tummy "Bye baby!"
So that is how our prayers were answered and we now have a beautiful, happy 3 month old that is pure joy! The past year has been surreal and probably the best year of my life, even though I have been worried throughout. I loved being pregnant and now I love being a mother to my sweet Gray!
